Another Home Win

Shit, do these guys lose at home? Nope.....neither do the Red Sox evidently. We lose less on the road than they do it seems though. Good enough for me.

I tell you, I am looking forward to the series against the White Sox. We will find a lot out about the 2 Chicago teams in those 6 games. They won't determine division champions but I'm guessing the run differential in those series will be telling. All bets are off when its crosstown baseball but if the Sox find a way to give the Cubs trouble I will start giving them some credit. 27 less runs given up but 81 less runs scored.....3 to 1.....I did the math. Something tells me that the National league is catching up to the American.

Peace......no pics.....sorry.

Time to temper the excitement a little

FEAR ME!

It's at times like these that I have to step in and be the voice of reason. Today was a great win. Much like Rusty I was not able to catch most of the game. I was listening while driving back to YPG after lunch only to hear that the Cubs were down 6-0. It when I got out of the car it was 7-0 in the 4th. My coworkers poked me a bit about how it wasn't the Cubs day and I responded with the "you can't win them all" line. Well the Cubs came back to steal one from the hapless Rockies but I am right, "we can't win them all." As I have stated in a few previous posts, I am tired of the roller coaster that some fans insist on making the Cubs seasons. I adopted this mindset in Spring Training when I left a Cubs v Sox game after 9. Why did I leave. BECAUSE IT WAS A MEANINGLESS GAME. I left an extra inning affair against the Cards earlier this season only to have my fandome questioned by a Dbacks fan. Laughable, I know. The bottom line is there are still over 100 games left. We are going to lose a bunch of games, that much I gaurantee people. I just hope we win about 20-30 more than we lose. Rusty wants to start talking World Series but I refuse. 100 more games people. Lots of things can happen. Lets take this one week at a time and enjoy this 5 game winning streak. I'll start talking playoffs when we get under 30 games left and have some distance between us and 2nd place.

Lou, thank you for not doing this.

One final thing. Again, I don't give a shit what he does this season. Jim Edmonds is a douche and I refuse to cheer for him. 3-4 today, not too bad Lassie. I'm not going to boo the guy when he steps to the plate simply because I care too much about the team. I do still loath him though. Nothing is going to change that. For what it's worth he is still batting for shit since joining the Cubs. Nice job Jimmy, with todays 3 hits you almost have that Cub average to .250.

Best Game of the Season?

"When DeRosa's ball went out of the ballpark, that's the loudest that this place has been this year by far," Piniella said. "It was almost deafening."

I wasn't watching, but I was listening. Which is pretty surprising, as I normally turn off the game after the Cubs start to get clobbered. But what seemed to be my point of depression to turn me to drinking tonight quickly became the point of surprise and ecstasy...which will also lead me to drinking. The most unthinkable part of the comeback, the biggest in just under 10 years, is that it was done by not Soriano, D-Lee, or Ramirez. It was done by our bench-warmers. Check out these stats:

Not exactly the terrifying middle of the order Cubs opponents are used to. Also notice that Ramirez wasn't even in the lineup, and Lee and Soto were pulled after Lou had decided this would be a better day off, than day of baseball. But what is it that makes good teams great? Oh yeah, everyone gets in on the act.
"It speaks volumes to the character of the team and the fact that Lou's not afraid to play everyone," DeRosa said. "Everyone feels like in that clubhouse that they're a part of the team. Everyone's contributed in their own personal way to our victories so far this year."
It's funny, because right before I left for work today, the yahtzees on ESPN2 (cause ESPN was showing the Spelling Bee) were talking about if this Cub team is for real. Well, I think they might have just proved it today. And even though Lilly was tagged for seven runs on just 3 innings, another horrible outing, not getting the lost just might prevent him from running to the nut house.

But today wasn't about pitching. It was about confidence, which is something the Cubs have more of than any other team in the Bigs. You could even hear it in Pat and Ron's voices as the Cubs started their rally in the sixth. And when DeRosa hit the go-ahead homer, I thought Ronny was gonna have a heart attack right there on the radio.

BTW, yours and mine most hated Cub might have even redeemed himself, at least for the time being. Jimmy Red-Nuts went 3-4 after dropping a fly ball early in the game, including his first homer as a Cub. I love to bash my Cub players now and then, but it looks like Edmonds will get a pass for at least a week. Hey, if he keeps it up he might even end up like Dempster and will get a pass for half a season. Which is good, because as Jimmy said himself, "Sometimes when I'm in the outfield, I think I'm still wearing red and white."

Well this hell of a 4-day work week is finally over. Now I just need some more of these Cub's wins that I can actually watch all the way through...even though I have to admit listening to Pat and Ron freak out is probably as entertaining as it gets.

Go Cubs!

Its all about the numbers

Numbers...

I'm not a mathematician. Hell, I'm not even a rocket scientist. I don't deal with numbers. I'm a fucking artist...well, kinda. I'm at least half an artist. But I don't know numbers. So with this, I bring you my number blog.

Numbers.

Let's start with the good:

23 - Ryne Sandberg, MJ, my birthday. It's a Chicago number. Whenever I lay down in Vegas on 23 for roulette, I hear the "Jordan!" And I just nod, knowing I saw that fucker win us 6 titles.

13 - Unlucky to most. But I always hit on 13...unless of course the dealer is showing 15 or 14.

34 - Duh! This is a Chicago blog right?

69 - Obvious.

9 - Jim McMahon, "Good as Gould", yeah.

Bad numbers:

30 - Really, 30?

18 - Why does one number determine voting, draft, driving, smoking, fucking, etc? Wait, I don't live in AK right? No? Okay, yeah...18.

5 - 5 outs to go. That's how close we came to WINNING the World Series in 03. Seriously, if we meet that other team from Florida in the Series this year, the Rays (yeah, like God made a deal with them to drop the "Devil"), we're not fucking up.

So my goods, my bads. What's the best?

1!

1 bitch! You know what that number is? It's the number of where we rank in the MLB! All of baseball, not just the crappy (or so EPSN tells me) National League. We are the best team in baseball, solely. I'm not gonna lie. It's nice. The last time I remember the Cubs in first place in the league past April was...maybe 03? And I noticed tonight that Marmol now holds the MLB best for holds! I tried to find the number, but apparently it's not an official stat.

33 - It's not only the mysterious Rolling Rock, it's the number of wins the Cubs have after exactly 1/3 of the season. So that means...yep, 99 wins if we keep pace for the other two-thirds. Or we could just get better. Have you seen some of the shmucks we are playing coming up?

7+3 - That's 10 folks. The number of players on the Cubs starting roster that actually have a realistic chance of getting to the All Star Game. Soto is leading all votes. Fonzy and K-Fuk are leading for OF. You know Ramirez and D-Lee if not making it in on votes are still in Midsummer Classic. PLUS, the Marmot and Big Z are shoe-ins. And don't forget about Dempster.

FUCK! DEMPSTER!

Really! I'm as shocked as you.

Other numbers:

304 vs. 216 - That's our aggregate score this year. Only a third into the season and we have scored almost 100 more runs than our opponents. Does anyone remember last year when the D-Bags scored LESS runs than their opponents and still beat us in the playoffs.

1,000,000 - The minimum amount of fans that will be standing outside Wrigley Field when the Cubs win the Series this year. Best party ever, I'm going back to the Chi for sure to join in. Oh, I feel bad for my place of employment.

Well, that's about what I can come up with. I was thinking about closing with some half-naked, chubby girl in a Cub's jersey. But Angry Mike said no. So sorry "Nipple" Google-searchers. Maybe next time.

Cubs win again!

And guess who delivered? I guess all of these assholes can shut the fuck up. Again, I implore people to think before booing Soriano. I think most fans of this team are more intelligent than the sports writers of Chicago so I would hope you wouldn't fuel their egos by "proving them right."

It looks like the self-proclaimed "best team in baseball" is struggling again tonight, against SF! I'm going to go ahead and say it, I told you so. Even in the weak ass NL West this team is not going to run away and hide. They just have too many guys in that lineup that strike out a ton. The Cubs have 1 guy (maybe too, Soto does K a lot) and every wants to boo him after an 0-4. Weeb and Haren are a nice 1-2 but they hardly strike fear into people. People are starting to realize that Owings is a mediocre pitcher who should probably be moved to LF. I see them making the playoffs simply because I don't see how anyone else in that division could possibly win 85+ games but they will perform much like last season. Hot one series and cold as shit the next. I just hope this time we don't decide to cool off when they heat up.

In other news, it looks like Scott Martin, formerly of the Boilers basketball team, is transfering to ND. I want to wish him luck but I am not going to simply because I know why he left. He clearly thought he was the best player joining the Boilers after the start of last season and became jealous of his hometown friend Robbie Hummel's overnight stardome. I suppose I can see a bit of jealously but I am not sure what he thinks the transfer is going to accomplish. By the time he joins ND they will be losing most of the players he is claiming influenced the decision. He wants to be the man, plan and simple. That in itself will hold him back. In the mean time he can sit back and watch his former buds make a run at the BigTen title in 2008-2009. Thanks for opening up another scholarship man.

Bonus Coverage

I got your Bonus Coverage right here assholes. Cox Communications Phoenix can't get high def WGN soon enough. Does ESPN really think anybody watching the Cubs - Dodgers wants to see Wommany Ramirez attempt to hit his 500th home run? Dumb. Sure it's a great accomplishment. Something that should be covered on, well, I don't know, maybe Baseball Tonight Coming Up Next! It's not a new record or anything though, so piss of. Unfortunately I was watching at a bar so by the time I would have asked them to put it on WGN, Ramirez would have grounded out. There's been two hits the whole fricken game. What makes them thing Ramirez is going to hit a dinger. Just pisses me off.

Cubs on the other hand are in a very close game, and ESPN only wants to cut away? What a bunch of retards. But what a game it turned out to be. Great comeback. Couldn't have asked for a better birthday gift! Yes, happy b-day to me! I can't believe I've turned 29 again. That's three years in a row that I've turned 29!!! As much as I was hoping D-Lee would hit the game winning homer in the bottom of the 9th, I was very much estatic that Soto popped it up deep enough to drive in The Riot!!!
Then to extra innings. Those have been scary as of late. Finally the Cubs win in extra innings, and only one extra inning as opposed to another half a game of extra innings, or more. Whay to go Fontenot! Beautiful double! Then, of course, Soriano got the job done. Mike is right about that guy. We have to take the (little bit) of bad with the good. What a wonderful sweep. Bring on those National League defending Champions!

Everyone....just lay Soriano

OK people, it is time to take a step backwards. Our buddy Al is not the greatest defense player and he is not the greatest hitter. We all understand this by this point. I think everyone kicked their dog when he dropped that fly ball in Pittsburgh. Yeah, shit happens man. I am so tired of the roller coaster ride every Cubs fan insists on taking with Soriano. He's extremely questionable defensively....I agree. If you are going to curse him over a fly ball he drops where the sun was in his eye or time he pulls up short of the fence (watch Sportcenter and you would have noticed that the Dodgers' 1B Loney did the same thing but looked worse) you need to stay off the fucking bandwagon when he unleashes a throw home to gun some asshole out by 30ft. Is he going to have moments in his time in Chicago where you want to punch him in the neck? Sure. I was at game 1 on last season's NLDS and his at bats were brutal. But hey, it's not like HE GOT US THERE ALMOST SINGLE HANDEDLY! When the guy is on he is the most feared hitter in the game. Couple that with D Lee, Fukudome, and Ramirez and you have a team that has started 31-21. I understand there are those people out there who believe they are 31-21 despite him. Simply cynical Cubs fans. That's all I will say about them. They can join the Jay Mariotti's of the world. I could care less. Whether we like it or not Al is a part of this team for the long haul. All I ask is that people don't live and die with every swing of his bat. We have a team full of talented players. If we are going to win it this season he will be a part of it. If we don't he will likely be a reason we don't Either way you cannot argue the impact he has on this team. The bad with the good people.

I wanted to touch on the Cubs remaining first half schedule. At 31-21 we are sitting fairly nicely. The month of June is going to be a struggle with 17 road games but I think we will be catching some of the right types of teams to improve our road record. I know how we did last season against the Cards but lets face something, the Cubs are not going to always walk into St. Louis and kick the Cards ass. There is something about that hell hole that just makes the Cubs play below their capabilities. That is not so about many of the teams on their schedule. I think we match up great against the Padres, Dodgers, Rays, Sox, and Orioles of the worlds. They all have hot or cold offenses (except the Padres, they just suck). Of pitching staff typically handles teams like that. I mean look at the first 2 games against the Dodgers and the games against SD. These NL West teams have nothing on offense. I am just thankful that we have at LEAST one more series against all of them. Yeah, the Dbacks are the best team in baseball. This Cubs team might be 36-16 if we played in that division. With that I think we are going to finish somewhere around 48-33 after 81 games. I see no reason why this team can't gain another 17 games in the next 31. The White Sox series will be intense but I think we scared the shit out of that team last season. They haven't even seen the revamped lineup. I can only imagine the stupid shit Ozzie will say if Lou hands him his ass again. Shit, I am rambling.

One last thing. IU signed another kid. I hope hes excited about playing for a team that might receive a tournament ban.I am really looking forward to the Boilers massacring the Hoosiers in West Lafayette this season.

Time to relax....if anyone every makes it through Yuma on a trip.....I recommend you keep driving straight through. Not much to see or do. PEACE!
BTW - Sorry I don't have better links or pictures. My connection here sucks.

A Couple of Idiots visit Wrigley

The Idiots pose in front of the new Banks statue.

Lazy Steve and Drunk Rusty are back from IL. Just in time to see the Cubs drop their first series in a while to the red-hot 'stros. No worries though, We are still first in the division, and if we get out of May in this position I see no one jumping off any ledges.

On Sunday the 18th, 2 of the Idiots made it to the game against the Pirates. And they WON!!! This was the first time in 5 years I have seen the Cubs win at Wrigley. Even with Marquis giving up a double and a dinger to the first two batters he faced, I wasn't worried...okay I'm lying. But we came back in true Cubs (well this year at least) fashion. Get men on base, move 'em over, and score runs.

It was great to be back. I got a new hat, a Fukudome headband, ate a dog and had more than a couple Old Style's. Granted, the weather could have been a little nicer, it was like 40 degrees all the way up in the upper deck, but it was fun. And even though Lazy Steve had to leave early, Woody managed to keep the game in check and pulled out another save.

Well, gotta get back to work. I'm taking tomorrow off for my 30th birthday so I can start the partying nice and early. I tell you, this was a tough 2 day work week. Maybe I will drunk post tomorrow while I'm sitting all alone at home, chugging vodka and partaking in other recreations.

Go Cubs!

This lineup is solid

Holy shit did Soriano catch fire. I haven't had the opprotunity to watch many games recently as I have been stuck in Yuma. It's a good thing the Cubs have been kicking ass and producing plenty of Baseball Tonight highlights. I understand everyone wants to think that the Dbacks are the best team in the league because of the way they assembled their team but you cannot argue with a few facts I am about to present:
  1. The Cubs cruised by the Dbacks in Wrigley and shut down their VAUNTED lineup. The Dbacks strike out a lot and we finally saw some of what I expected to see last October.
  2. The Dbacks play in a terrible division and the Cubs play in a vastly improved division. You can argue that the Cubs are loading up on wins against Pittsburgh. Of course the Pirate would have a winning record if they hadn't played the Cubs 9 times.
  3. Run differential. Most stat nerds will explain that run differential is a better indicator as to who the better team is than wins and loses. Those nerds are right.

Now we are only 45 games into the season and a lot of things can change. As a Cubs fan I natually question how well they are going to play throughout the dog days but under Lou I don't see this team player worse as the season goes. They have played better and better since mid season last year when they ditched a bunch of shitty players. Needless to say I have not been disappointed by the start this season. Wood appears to be putting it together as a closer and Marmol is filthy. This new and improved patient lineup should be able to put up 4+ runs every night. Things look good people.

Oh, I want to touch on one thing. Mariotti evidentally thinks that Cubs fans will embrace Edmonds if he produces and we win a World Series. He might be right about most Cubs fans but I will always loath that self-absorbed assface. I just wanted to set the record set on that. You won't be seeing any I heart Edmonds signs on this site unless Rusty doesn't get his daily vodka allowance and freaks out.

Peace!

Angry Mike hates a Cub

I hate you SOOOOOO much Jim!

It doesn't happen too often but I officially hate someone on the Cubs roster. I don't care for Marquis too much but this "man" makes we want to hug Marquis. The Cubs signed Jim Edmonds today. FUCK!

I want to know what the fuck Hendry could be thinking. I mean this team is rolling along fairly nicely. Sure we have had a few bumps in the row but we have been constitently at the top of the league when it comes to wins. We have a nice attitude in the locker room and now he injects this flamming asshole into things. Did Zambrano miss having someone around that he wanted to beat the shit out of or something?

Anyway, I really couldn't be more disappointed by this. I didn't watch the game today but it sounds there the Cubs really took care of Peavy. Not too many teams out there are capable of that. I am SURE adding Edmonds to things will result in us leading the league in runs scored. Oh, wait, we are already there. Still scratching my head. I can honestly say that I don't want this man to do well. I hope he plays so terrible that we cut him as well and bring Pie back up. I would much rather have a defensive player like Pie on the bench with the speed to come in and steal a bas.

Interested in some good reading on Edmonds. Check this out.

The blog goes on

Maybe Jimmy should go to the South Side, this reminds me of when Ozzy made out with his son after they won the Series.

So should we call the blog, "Fire Jim Edmonds"? Or how about "Jim Edmonds is SOOO Yahtzee!"

It looks as though that fucker is on his way to Chicago
. Great, we get an asshole who everyone hates, that was kicked off the WORST team in baseball, and for what? So we have another left-handed bat in the lineup? Fuck that. I initially wasn't on board for Reed Johnson, but that seemed to work out okay. We don't need to replace him in the lineup every other day for that schmuck.

So the Cubs are back in first, and are on-again-off-again with the best record in baseball. Of course the Devil Rays have won 11 in a row at home, and the Marlins are best in their division, so who knows what the fuck is going on with baseball this year.

You might have noticed (all 3 readers of our blog) that we don't post as much. Amazing how much we had to say before the season started, and now that we're a good month and half into the season we have gone dead. Well, the writers for this blog actually have lives, and are currently busy with work/school/drinking. Maybe I will get back to my normal life where I spend 3/4 of the day reading and writing blogs instead of working overtime every night. Maybe not.

Two of the Idiots (although one had to be dragged kicking and screaming) are headed back to IL this weekend and will be on hand to watch the Cubs cremate the Bucs on Sunday. This will be good for a couple reasons:

1. The last two times I have seen the Cubs at Wrigley they have played the Marlins. I fucking hate the Marlins.
2. The last four games I have seen the Cubs play at Wrigley they have lost. I fucking hate the Marlins.
3. My ex/bff will be bringing her 4 year old daughter to her first Cubs game, which doesn't sound like fun, but will be good to start instilling the spirit of the Cubs into her. And do it the right way, not like all these yahtzees that show up to the game with their popped collars and flat-billed hats.

Maybe some more posts in the future, maybe not. I saw Lazy Steve looking for hot chicks in Cubs gear the other night so maybe he will even post. But I'm going to beat him to it...pun intended.

Oh, and GFY Jim Edmonds!

Go Cubs!

I think I might like Gracey being back in town

2 tough games. 2 in the win column. Not bad i say. Lilly and Dempster pitched awesome the past couple games, minus a couple hiccups. Soriano laying it on strong...finally. Thank God it's May and Soriano can start hitting now. K-Fuk with his 2nd dinging of the year. Yeah, I called it.

So Grace wasn't too much of a homer for the D-Bags today, and at points actually sounding like a Cubs fan. I mean really, why would Grace like the Cubs? Not like he was our best first baseman until the guy with the HUGE cock (that's right, I said D-Lee has a big cock).

So even though the Cards managed to still win today against a falling fast and never to be seen again Brew-crew, we are still within throwing distance of first place in the Central and the best record in baseball. Of course it is not exactly in the bag with Randy "No you didn't see me on Dateline NBC's'To Catch a Predator' last night" Johnson on the Hill tomorrow against Big Z, who btw looks to start off the month of May with his first of 6 wins in the month. GFY Webb, no one cares. I know, I live in AZ and you are still giving away tickets to the games. Meanwhile, I'm paying $75 a ticket for upper-deck seats to see the Cubbies play the Bucs next Sunday. But I did get my tickets from this chick...with benefits!

Good win today boys. Let's keep it aggressive. Go Cubs!

HEY EVERYONE!

Yes, I am still alive everyone. I realize I have not been coming through but I have been pretty f'ing busy. If I wasn't watching so many Cubs games I could use what little free time I have to get some posts up.

Anyway, to the news of the day. Drunk Russ broke the news already. I got my Cub tattoo today. I was going to go with the beady eyed Cubs from the late 60s but I opt'ed for the tradition "C" from the hat.

Here it is:

I am going to use this tat to motivate me to blog more. I have some many thoughts that I need to share with you. If I become sleep deprived so be it. In the end it could all be worth it.

BTW - Can someone explain to me how Pujols didn't get DRILLED today?

PEACE!

Angry Mike Gets Cubs Tattoo

It's true! I don't have a picture, but soon. And maybe soon he will blog again.

Also, in Cubs news, Hill was sent down, Gallagher was sent up, and Lieber moved to the rotation. Lilly pitched another good outing, Marmot can't stop being the most dominating pitcher in the game.

And I'm watching Costas Now, and old people don't like blogs. Sorry gramps, I'm going to keep it up.

Go Cubs! We need to get back to first.
