There Was No Meteor
Working late sucks. But I really didn't want to watch this stupid football game anyway.
A battle of the one loss teams of Yahtzees. One team I hate more than life its self, and the other I like just slightly more than the Lions and Vikings. Packers at Cowboys.
Of course I was hoping for a meteor strike, or worse. That didn't happen. But there was some good news. As I sat there eating a crappy sandwich from Subway, T.R. threw a pick in the endzone that wasn't even his fault. T.O. just decided to deflect a pass into the hands of some long haired freaky person wearing yellow. T.O. sucks.
But then, I heard some sweet news. Since I wasn't paying attention, it had to be pointed out to me out that some kid that I will surely hate with a passion even more in the future, that answers to the name of Aaron Rogers (which, by the way is very close to a firsty-firsty) was taking the snaps, and just got sacked. This was because, I was told, Farvra got hurt.
My first thought:
I hope he dies.
My second thought:
No, seriously, I really hope he dies.
And then I quickly started dreaming about a world without #4. Just take a moment to think about that. Puts a smile on my face every time I think about it.
So hopefully Farve is out for the season, out forever, and hopefully his arm falls off and he bleeds to death as he's crying like a little girl who's crying twice, the second time because her teddy bear was just used as a, well, nevermind.
And this is just the start. Packers lose out. Bears win out. Bears take the NFC North. Bears come to town in February and win. What a glorious night!

FAVRE HURT!
Cubs got Wood and I got wood after watching Hester.
Some thoughts:
Cubs pickup Kerry Wood for one more year. Like it. Kerry was effective in the setup position last year, and we will need plenty of it without an official closer.
Cubs traded JJ. Oh NO! My favorite French black guy not from Canada is gone. Jones didn't really do shit last year till trade rumors flew and Pinella knew to sit him on his ass for a while to think about how he was such a bad boy. Unfortunately, didn't we get another infielder for him? How many of these fuckers do we need. Also, I've heard him referenced to as Neifi Version 2.0. Great!
Prior...trade rumors...you have a ham and cheese sandwich you say? No way, Prior is worth way more than a sandwich. Wait...you will throw in a pickle spear too? Well buddy, you got yourself a deal.
I watched the Bears TWICE again on the NFL replay last night. Brought back memories of last year with the coming back in overtime through shear determination, luck, and probably the STUPIDEST kicker in the game. Hey, Sauerbrawn:
Thanks again for showing us why Hester is the greatest return man in the game...EVER!!!
Plus, I am sad to say that Benson will be out for the remainder of the season. BOO-HOO!!! Actually, I couldn't hold back the tears of joy. Thank God we can have a running back that will actually stay on his feet instead of be constantly falling forward until a broken blade of grass trips his fall.
And how about that catch!
The playoffs are here boys, let's win 'em all!

WTF DITKA!

Well, here we go again. I wake up today and watch a little NFL Countdown (that is a fine job of setting up the scene people) and the guys are going around the table telling us what they are thankful for this year. What did Iron Mike?
"That Bret Favre is playing football in Green Bay"Really Mike..........really?!?! I did a little homework and noticed Favre's first year was your last as our coach. This is not shocking since Favre spent the rest of the 90's and the beginning of the next millenium abusing the Bears. I am guessing he didn't watch many of those games since I can't think of any Chicago Bears people that would utter the words above.
Last week on the show. When asked about the 2007 Packers?
"I love the Packers"WOW! Is any of this a big problem? Not really. The man has a right to his opinion. My problem is that the man continues to use his time with the Bears and his popularity in Chicago to peddle merchandise to people of that fair city and Bears fans around the country. I don't know what to say. I have always loved Ditka. He was a great player and a great coach in the 80's but he cannot continue to have things both ways. He needs to either be the national TV guy who goes along with the flavor of the week or he needs to stick with his roots. No one on ESPN would blame him for saying:
"Sorry guys, the Packers are having a nice season but I am a Bears guy and always have and cannot sit hear and talk about how much I love them. I don't."
I think E. Smith has said something like that a few times about the Redskins already.
I still love the Coach. It will take more than a few STUPID comments on ESPN NFL Countdown for me sway. That being said, he is taking a road he shouldn't. It is people like me and my friends who keep that guy swimming in cash. Lose us and no one is left. Does he think people around the country love him like the people of Chicago do? One thing I promise him is that Packer fans won't being buying his merchandise. Why? Because they remember what he did to them in the 80's. And we have come full circle.
I will leave you guys with excerpts I found searching around:
"George Halas would always greet us nicely when we were warming up, but if you were tackled on his sideline during the game, you would hear him saying something like 'Kill that s.o.b.!'"says Packers Hall of Fame running back Tony Canadeo, who played from 1941-44 and 1946-1952.
Halas seemed to relish the confrontations with Lombardi. About five minutes before one game with Green Bay, he knocked on the door of the Packers' training room. Green Bay's equipment manager answered the door, and Halas said he needed to speak to coach Lombardi. Lombardi came to the door, and Halas told him, "Coach, I hope you have your team ready because we're going to kick your ass."
I wonder what Halas would think of Ditka's recent comments.

Sunday wakeup call: Boilers, Bears, and WTF is with college football?
I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the beginning of the Boilers basketball season. Sure, the football team was again, a terrible disappointment. Purdue isn't known for good football though. We have tough basket teams that compete for BigTen titles every season. Didn't know that huh? Well that's because the end of the Keady era and beginning of the Painter era was not an easy transition. Coach Painter now has the players he wants. Gone are Keady's final two diamonds in the rough with David Teague and Carl Landry graduating. In are 4 highly touted freshman from across Indiana. Didn't Painter land superstar Eric Gordon? No, but he grabbed the next best 4 players from the state, one who beat Gordon in the highschool finals last season. E'twaun Moore, JaJuan Johnson, Scott Martin, and Robbie Hummel bring with them with the expectations back to Purdue basketball. Just yesterday, the group helped Purdue down Loyola Chicago by a score of 84-53. Along with sophmore Chris Kramer, they former a talented but young lineup for Painter. This team will likely not compete for the BigTen title this season. It is far to hard to win the title with mostly freshman unless they have names like Greg Oden. Next season will be when they begin to shine. A good goal for this season would be to advance to the NCAA tournament and win at least one game there. Next season the fans start thinking about titles, BigTen and NCAA. These guys appear to be up to it but they have a lot to learn. I really enjoyed Purdue's run to the Elite 8 when I was a freshman there and took it for granted that it would happen again soon. No Purdue basketball fan is spoiled anymore. We are hungry though, hungry for this team to prove they belong in the upper echolon of college basketball again. Cheers to Paint for turning things around so fast. You are aiming high and you didn't have to CHEAT to set your team up for success.
On to a more pressing issue. The Bears basically have to run the table to get into the playoffs. Can they do it? Sure they can. Are they going to do it? It really isn't looking like it. Where does that leave us? Looking toward next season. The next couple weeks will basically be for our own players to audition for their jobs. Stellar outting for Rexy MIGHT keep him in Chicago but it appears much more likely he will be trying to earn a starting job for some other team as he seems to have completely lost the confidence of everything in the city. What to do what to do. Many think we should go after Derek Anderson. Is that really wise? You got me. We have quite a few holes on this team right now. Priority number one to me is upgrading the offensive line. Injuries have been a problem for the D. The O-line has no excuses. Time to rebuild Angelo. Draft someone in the first 3 rounds if a guy is there and sign someone. That would be a great start. I would much rather see Rex back in Chicago at an affordable price for 2 more seasons than spending all out money on Anderson and not being able to upgrade in other places.
College football.......I give up. LSU and Kansas goes down. Missouri vs WV in the National Championship......you have to be kinding me. Does anyone really think the winner of that game is the best team in the country. The answer is FUCK NO! I hate Ohio State but I would rather see them than either of those teams. Maybe the computers can work some magic and neither Mizzou or WV will be there. I can always hope. For the most part I won't watch and don't give a shit either way so I guess I don't know why I am wasting my time.
Have a lovely Sunday afternoon people! (I bet someone of you guys thought I would say to go fuck yourself......maybe next time)

Happy Thanksgiving
I have a few ideas.
- You play for Green Bay
- You lead in career INTs but people only talk about your TD record
- Every shitty TV analyst has certainly handled your junk at sometime
I don't have all day so I will leave it there. You and the rest of those queens are 10-1. Probably the worse 10-1 team in the history of the NFL. I am actually looking forward to Dallas beating a team for once. All of this GB to the Super Bowl stupidity must stop. Should be fun to see what happens when you play a team with a decent defense and try to run 33 pass plays out of 37 plays. Fortunately if they keep that kind of gameplan it is likely that Brett will get concused.
Is it Sunday yet? It would be nice of the Bears to win a couple games and give us something to keep our interest the rest of the season. Nothing would be better than sneaking into the playoffs and knocking off those toolbags. Heres to hoping at this point.
Have a good holiday weekend jerkies!

Revenge of a caveman?!?!

I think not. The best news I have heard all week. Jason Kendall is signing a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Wow......did they not see his slugging percentage? Maybe they missed the fact that he threw out only 2 guys in over 50 attempts. I don't know. He WILL be playing against the Cubs over 15 times next season though. He used to be a pain in the ass when he paid for the Pirates. Fortunately those days are long gone. Welcome back to the NL Central Mr. Kendall.
One more topic worth discussing pals. I guess Fox is doing some big salute to Brett Farve tomorrow before (or during.....I don't fucking know) the game. WHAT THE FUCK! The guy holds his team for ransom, 3 years in a row, suddenly he's back to being the toast of the league. GOOD LORD PEOPLE! This season is a fluke. This team will go down early in the playoffs and this asshole will wait months to let GB know what he plans to do. He is a grade A jerkoff everyone. He holds a few records because he has played QB in more games than pretty much anyone. He has 1 Super Bowl (same amount as Jimmy Mac) and I am supposed to celebrate him? Fox, I have only one thing to say to you, GO FUCK YOURSELF!

The offseason is boring...but we will be ready in time.
So you might be noticing some changes to the blog. I am the resident designer, and actually being a graphic designer, I am going to try to make this site at least a little interesting. Luckily our regular poster, Mike (I think he should change his name to Angry Mike), is actually pretty good at this writing shit. Hey, I have my Masters in Art, so unless it's about Rothko or Bill Viola, it's probably not going to be that interesting.
So I will have this site all good and setup proper-like by the time preseason spring training begins. Speaking of which, the Idiots are going to Vegas to see the Cubs in their games out there. It will be the first trip of many for the group, sure to be a good time had by all.
So what about those Cubs. Mike's worried about the leadoff position and the sale. Both good points. The leadoff killed us a lot last year, I don't know though if Soriano's free-wheeling style that works so well in the first pitch of the game will work as well deeper in the lineup though. Let's just hope it doesn't take him 3 months to get started like last year.
Personally, I'm worried about the closer situation. Now that Sweet Uncle Lou has moved the cum-Dumpster to the starting rotation, who exactly will be our closer?
Sure, the Marmot has the stuff, but I don't know if he's experienced enough or has the guts to handle it. I would have liked to have gotten Rivera this offseason, but apparently Mr. Born-with-a-silver-spoon-in-my-mouth Steinbrenner (the son that is) has decided the only way to beat the Bo-Sox next year is by using the same team he had last year, oh yeah, minus that really good manager guy. Mattingly...Giardi? Really? We will see how that turns out.
But off course I thought that getting Gagne last year would take us to the Series, and we all see how that worked? What's that? He was the closer for the World Champion Red Sox? On second thought...
So as part of the College of Idiots, I propose, what both Sox used to get their rings...the Bullpen by Committee. I don't think it would be a huge stretch for Lou. Unlike Dusty, Lou has the balls to play the "what have you done for me lately?" game. We have good setup guys, pending we keep the Wood, plus the addition of a couple of those guys from the island over the ocean should be enough to get through 6-9 using a rotating setup/closer rotation. (did I just use two variants of the word rotate in a row?)
So what will kill the Cubs this season? Chicago has their history of sucking ass right after a good year. Unless you have a guy named Jordan on your team. Are there any Jordan's on the free agent or minor reports out there? We got this guy Prior we are willing to trade for him? He was awesome.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! The site won't change much until after the holiday, but look for exciting shit to happen.
## Update: "exciting shit to happen" Meaning: like the damn guy's photobucket account who I "borrowed" the layout from going over it's bandwith. FUCK!

Monday Night Nothing
Is there a game on tonight? Really? I hadn't noticed. Instead I have been sitting around watching a recorded Iron Chef from last night. The Broncos and the Titans.....does anyone really care anyway?
I think everyone saw what the Patriots did to the Bills last night. I am quickly starting to gravitate to the group of people who think the Patriots are invinsible. That is completely shit of course. If Brady were to go down next week that team would be screwed. Yes, I understand their D hasn't been giving up much. That's because the offense, led by Brady, built up a big lead and the opponents get away from their gameplan in the first quarter. It is much easier to stop of team when they are trying the force the issue and are running plays they haven't been practicing as much. At the end of the day they are kicking ass. It does seem it WILL take an injury to derail them.
Vick sent himself to jail today. Congrats asshole! You will get out 3 weeks earlier than you would have. That moron probably thinks this will get his stay in prison reduced. That fact is that he financed a dog fighting ring. It doesn't get much lower than that. Sure his friends ran the day to day. BUT HE FUCKING PAID FOR IT! Every ass that supports that clown should be gathered up and taken to the place where those dogs were. Let them see the carnage. It's not a big deal because it is about of southern culture? Wow! Just because it's a part of a culture doesn't make it acceptable. People in the Middle East think its OK to blow people up in God's name too. Should we just give THEM a pass since its part of their culture?
Well that's enough.Until tomorrow......or the day after. Maybe either of these other idiots will open their mouths one of these days.

Beaten by this guy

Surf's up DUDES!!! The Bears were beaten by the Seahawks in Seattle today by a score of 30-23. At the beginning of the season I marked this one down as one of the possible road losses. Why is it this loss feels like such a kick in the crotch? It's because we are watching a fairly talented team make themselves look like asses. Rex stepped in a played a decent game. Sure he lost a fumble late. Was it just me or was he running for his life ALL night. I am still trying to figure out if Miller even tried to block Kerney today. The receivers made some nice plays and some poor ones. I don't understand why Turner can't find more ways to get the ball to Olsen. All in all the offense's mediocre outting was the result of atrocious line play. Its time to replace numerous members of that line at the end of the season.
Before I move on to the defense I need to get something out. Matt Hasselbeck, I hope someone breaks you in half before the end of this season. Why do I hate you so much? Because you used to back up Brett Farve......yeah......that's pretty much it. Look at that picture above. That is almost reason enough without the fav rah connection.
On to the defense. Again, they gave up 30 points. Can't blame the offense this time though. I think Seattle got 3 off our 1 turnover. No, they let Matt Hasselbeck and his one dimensional offense move the ball down the field all afternoon. We have aweful safety play to deal with and McBride is a rookie who is getting abused. I don't know what else to say about the D. They are the biggest disappointment of this shit season. Briggs will end up leaving at the end of the year and he will leave a huge hole but I am more worried about trying to dump Archuleta and Manning. They have no fucking clue back there. Oh, and how about our supposed run stuffing safety (Archuleta.....its hard to figure it out without me telling you) getting jooked by some guy named Maurice Morris. GUH, you need to hang them up.
Anyway, I don't feel like going into it anymore. This team will miss the playoffs and I can only hope they put themselves in position to upgrade their O-line and DBs. We will certainly find out what Grossman is about the next few weeks. He is playing for a chance to come back next season right now and I have to be honest, that might not be the worst decision considering the options.
Almost forgot. How about Garrett Wolfe in that punt protection? The rest of the league best watch out......he may injury someone.

He's Baaaaaaack....

OK, this time it is not about my return to blogging (if that's what you want to call my last 2 attempts).
I am speaking of Rexy. He will be starting for the Beloved this afternoon in Seattle. I understandnRex has had his problems but at this point I would prefer to see Griese if I am the Walrus. Why? Well it is pretty simple. The "good Rex, bad Rex" phrase is pretty accurate. He's either great or terrible. Right now he is playing with confidence. He led the drive and threw the pass that saved the Bears season. Oh, he also torched the Seattle D last season for 3 TDs against 1 int in two games. The same guy that was a turnover machine was $$ against Seattle.
The key to this game is going to be the Bears DBs against Hasselbeck and the Seattle WRs. Last season the Bears won this matchup hands down. Hasselbeck has lost a few steps since 2005 but he can still sling it. If Seattle abandons the run the Bears must get pressure and generate turnovers. If they don't the Bears might have trouble matching them point for point. There is also the chance Rex could go ape-shit and blow this thing open. Will it be good Rex of bad Rex? I'm praying for good Rexy to bring the sexy back.

College Football Wrap - Final week of BigTen conference play

Well I got a chance to watch some college football today. Oregon is out of the national title race and it appears the Sooners are also. So Kansas, Missouri, and West Virginia will be ahead of Ohio State for 2nd in the BCS standings. Does anyone really think these teams will be able to hold on the way teams have been going down? I think Ohio State will get another chance to embarass themselves in the Championship game this season and the Wolverines might back into the Rose Bowl where they will get plowed by whoever the Pac-10 offers up. Boy did Henne look terrible today. He played with a shoulder injury that basically gave his team no chance to move the ball. Mallett came in for a drive when Henne had to step out and the Michigan offense seemed to respond. Kudos to Carr for putting an ineffective Henne back in and losing again the OSU 14-3.
My Boilers managed to lose to the asshole Hoosiers today in Bloomington in typical fashion. They spotted an inferior opponent a big lead and managed to tie them only to lose on a last second FG. Bravo jerks! We wasted a good season by Bryant and I am hoping Painter won't be the starting QB next season. They guy just can't win a big game on the road.

Leading Off
Hey kiddies! Did everyone have a nice week? It sucked you say? You are not alone.
I thought I would use this first post to introduce myself, discuss a frustrating situation, and vent about ANOTHER frustrating situation.
I will be your friendly neighbor Cubs/Bears/Boilermaker fan. Am I biased? Of course. Am I a little stupid? Sure. Do I know a fair amount about all of my favorite teams? Hells YEAHYAH! I am not great with graphics, so I take NO credit for an visuals you get here. My hope is to successfully analyze sports (and other) situations in a way that anyone can appreciate and maybe get a few chuckles down the line.
Frustration #1.....
The Chicago Cubs leadoff situation!
Soriano feels most comfortable batting leadoff I am told. Lou accomodated him this season but I seriously hope he does the right thing next season. At this point we are looking at a potential lineup with Felix Pie and Ryan Theriot in it. I can understand not batting Pie leadoff (since he happens to SUCK at hitting for the moment) but Theriot needs to bat leadoff if hes in there. He has the most patience on the team and the least amount of power. I think we all enjoy seeing Soriano hitting leadoff homeruns, but wouldn't they be much more awesome if they were 3 run dingers? If we pickup this guy there is no reason he shouldn't hit 2 behind Theriot. Lee, A-Ram, and Soriano then would have plenty of RBI chances (especially with all the walks Lee draws). Doesn't this all make sense? Oh yeah, and Lou knows it. Expect to see a lineup like that more often next season.......or expect to see more games like the Dback playoff games where Soriano swung wildly and never got on in the leadoff spot and A-Ram always came up with no one on and with no protection behind him.
Frustration #2.....
The Cubs sale situation
It is being reported that they won't be sold in 2007 and likely not before Spring Training. WOW! Are you fucking kidding me? Bug Selig, you my friend, are an asshole. I know you are pissed your shitty little team from Wisconsin (Packers suck!....sorry had to get that in here) didn't make the playoffs but this isn't going to help their cause. At the end of the day the Cubs are still more talented than that bunch of overachievers. Do you really think Hardy will produce like that again? Cordero will likely walk. Who is your closer then?....Turnbow?......HAHAHA he sucks more than Dempster. Can't wait to see what weight Fielder balloons to next season btw.
Eventually this team will be sold. No matter who buys them they will be better than a faceless corporation who only cares about stockholder returns. It will take a little longer but someone willing to spend some money will take over. I am still holding out for Mark Cuban but it looks like a long shot since Reinsdorf seems to be able to influence who is owning his only competitors team (unbelieveable).
Well thats all I have. Purdue plays IU tomorrow. I am not holding my breath. Here is to another lackluster college football season coming to an end!

Did you hear? Barry has been indicted.

Really, is anyone surprised?
"I'm surprised," John Burris, one of Bond's attorneys said, "but there's been an effort to get Barry for a long time. I'm curious what evidence they have now they didn't have before."
Hmm, wasn't his trainer, Greg Anderson, who has been in jail on contempt charges for refusing to testify in the BALCO investigation just released on the same day? Coincidence? Anderson's attorney, Mark Geragos claims his release has nothing to do with Bond's indictment.
"This indictment came out of left field," Geragos said. "Frankly I'm aghast. It looks like the government misled me and Greg as well, saying this case couldn't go forward without him."
This coming from the guy who has represented all sorts of upstanding citizens, including Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, Susan McDougal, Winona Ryder and Gary Condit.
Another of Bond's attorneys claims federal prosecutors are acting with "unethical misconduct."
"Every American should worry about a Justice Department that doesn't know if waterboarding is torture and can't tell the difference between prosecution on the one hand and persecution on the other," Rains said.
So apparently since our government is acting questionably in a war, we shouldn't believe a word they say.
So what exactly was the "smoking gun"? Many who have read the full, 10 page indictment believe it's a failed drug test by Bonds.
From page 3 of the indictment:
9. During the criminal investigation, evidence was obtained including positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances for Bonds and other professional athletes.Really, a failed test? How could it be Barry? Look at your Rookie Card, you look exactly the same today as you did back then.
Reactions from the sports world and water coolers have been varied, from shock, to sorrow, to huge parties in the middle of football fields. Wait, maybe that was Arizona's fans reaction to beating the foie gras out of the Oregon Ducks last night.
On a side note, amazing all those fans were able to stay put on the sidelines after jumping over the barricades with still over 5 minutes remaining left in what was still a very close game. Kudos to you Wildcat fans.
Also, no one seemed to notice that A-Rod will be a Yankee for life, ruining what could have been the greatest Cubs starting infields of all time: Lee, Ramirez, A-Rod, and yes, I hear Ryno is coming out of retirement!
Except of course the boys over at Rumors and Rants:
Remember, it was A-Rod and his tool of an agent, Scott Boras, that tried taking the limelight near the end of Game 4 of the World Series by announcing that he "would not return to the Yankees." (Oh really, who else was going to pony up that cash? The Nippon Ham Fighters?) Believe me, if my team was outs away from clinching the World Series and the talk on TV revolved around A-Rod's future, I'd be mighty pissed. (Of course, my team is the Cubs, so it's more likely that I'll be distracted by falling asteroids, nuclear missiles, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, an emergency broadcast from President Dennis Kucinich, the return of the dinosaurs -- either the prehistoric creatures or the TV show, and my hot date at that moment).
Even President Bush had a comment. "The president is very disappointed to hear this." White House spokesman Tony Fratto said. "As this case is now in the criminal justice system, we will refrain from any further specific comments about it. But clearly this is a sad day for baseball."
So whether you're crying over the tainting of the name of baseball, or overjoyed by Barry finally getting his come-uppings, believe me this is far from being over, unlike Bond's career in baseball.
Bonds is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in San Francisco on Dec. 7. At least Bond's will have to appear in the only town where fans actually like the guy. Of course, they also smoke a lot of pot, too.
